Bone meal is a great fertilizer due to its rich source of phosphorus. Essential for flowering plants and assisting new plants in the production of a strong roots. Easy for plants to absorb and slow to release to benefit plant systems for long cycles of time

- Promotes root and stem growth
- Contains Calcium and nitrogen
- Increases beneficial soil microbes
- Slow release
- Improves soil quality

Prior to adding Bone meal as a fertilizer in your garden, check the pH of the soil. If the pH is higher than 7, the effectiveness of bone meal decreases drastically. If your soil is above a pH of 7 be sure to correct before adding bone meal.
Bone meal is also used for balancing the NPK of other high nitrogen amendments. If you're using Blood meal which has an NPK of 14-0-0. It does not have any Phosphorous or Potassium. Adding bone meal with blood meal to the garden can provide a more balance mix of nutrients.

Bone meal has many benefits as an organic fertilizer but like any fertilizer one should be aware of any negative results. Bone meal takes time to break down so it takes some time to uptake the nutrients. The NPK value of Bone meal isn't well balanced, it will have to be used in conjunction with other amendments.
Bone meal like blood meal can attract animals if not throughly mixed into the soil. Also be sure to store in a secure location.
Adding too much phosphorus to your soil can cause lock outs of other nutrients, like zinc and iron. Plants that have a phosphorous toxicity will turn yellow. This is caused by the reduction in chlorophyll production which is known as chlorosis.

Being a slow release amendment, its more difficult to over fertilize. However, follow instructions for applications and verify if your soil requires phosphorous before adding Bone meal.

Store in a cool, dry location, out of direct sunlight. Protect from frost and other climatic extremes. Seal packaging between uses.
